GORE-TEX® fabrics are created by laminating our GORE-TEX®
membrane to high-performance textiles, then sealing them with an innovative
solution for 100% waterproof protection.
The expanded PTFE portion of the membrane contains over 9 billion microscopic pores per square inch. These pores are approximately 20,000 times smaller than a drop of water, but 700 times bigger than a molecule of moisture vapour. So whilst water droplets cannot penetrate the GORE-TEX® membrane, moisture vapour (a gas) can easily escape. Integrated into the ePTFE structure is an oleophobic, or oil hating substance that allows moisture vapour to pass through, but creates a physical barrier to contaminating substances such as oils, cosmetics, insect repellents and food substances. www.gore-tex.de |
Permanent waterproof.
To understand why GORE-TEX® fabrics are completely waterproof, just take a closer look at the micro-porous structure of the GORE-TEX® membrane. The pores in this membrane are about 20,000 times smaller than a drop of water, which means no external moisture can penetrate the membrane.

Windproof.
Shivering? It could be the windchill effect you're feeling. This occurs when cold air penetrates your clothing, negatively affecting your body’s sensitive microclimate. To keep you comfortable when hunting, skiing, or snowmobiling even in the coldest, windiest conditions, GORE-TEX® fabric is completely windproof, allowing you to stay out for longer. |

Breathable.
A quarter of a cup at rest. 1 litre during heavy exertion. Nearly 4 litres during a world-class marathon. That's how much perspiration our bodies can release in an hour in the form of water vapour. To prevent the discomfort caused by overheating or wet conductive heat loss, perspiration must evaporate so that it doesn't stay trapped inside your clothes, footwear or gloves. What makes GORE-TEX® products so breathable? The pores in the GORE-TEX® membrane are 700 times BIGGER than a water vapour molecule. Since water vapour can easily pass through the membrane, you remain comfortable and dry, whether you're taking the dog for a walk or running a gruelling marathon. |
