schoeller®-keprotec® was developed over fifteen years ago for motorcyclists’ clothing. Research work was aimed at a fabric which would provider similar protective functions to those of leather (rub and tear resistance in a fall) but with greater comfort of wear (moisture permeable, less heating up) and offering greater freedom of movement. Through the use of reinforced aramide fibres (e.g. Kevlar® by DuPont) which up to then had been used primarily in astronaut’s clothing and in high-quality sports equipment, Schoeller® succeeded in developing a fabric which met these high requirements. As similar needs had remained unfulfilled in other areas of use, Schoeller® modified this first keprotec® fabric and developed specific problem solutions for the most varied uses in extreme sports or for work protection and working clothes. Since the introduction of keprotec® in the mid-80s, Schoeller® has attained market leadership for protective fabrics with its qualitatively outstanding product range. |
