Fjäll Raven Greenland Wax
item number 79060 - Winter 2015/2016
Fjällräven Greenland Wax is the natural and ideal proofer for your Fjällräven clothing. It is extremely effective in making your garments more water repellent and keeping you dry in inclement weather. It is friendly to the environment, with no spray gases or solvents used, and is made according to an age old recipe containing simply paraffin and beeswax. A block of wax will last you for approximately ten plain impregnations of a Greenland Jacket and can be used on any adaptable Fjällräven garments such as Fjällräven trousers etc.
How To Apply Fjällräven Greenland Wax:
To apply your Greenland Wax you will need an ironing board for any non-lined
garments and a hair dryer for lined garments such as down jackets or dacronfilled
jackets. Simply apply the Greenland Wax to the parts of the garment that you want
to be water repellent, making best efforts to apply an even and thin layer as
any uneven application can lead to a flamy finish. It is common for people to
apply wax, or a greater concentration of wax, to more exposed areas such as the
shoulders of a jacket or the knees of a pair of trousers.
Warm the Greenland Wax into the fabric using an iron or hair dryer, depending
on the garment lining. The wax will melt at temperatures of around 55-60°
C (99-108° F) which is the temeperature range that you should look to use.
Repeat this process if you desire the garment to be more water repellent. For
examples, a couple of thin layers, each warmed in, gives a tighter and more resistant
proofing. However, don't forget that the more waterproof a fabric is, the more
difficult it will be for moisture to wick away from the body. It is therefore
important to try and strike a fine balance between waterproofing and breathability.
For instance, you may wish to let a garment breathe more at the armpits by applying
little or no wax.
Even More Applications For Greenland Wax:
Fjällräven Greenland Wax can be used for multiple purposes, some of which you would never have thought of. Here are a few examples:
Seamsealer - For instance, you can rub the wax into the seams of tents and rucksacks, using a hair dryer to warm it in
Rucksack Proofer - For instance, adapatable Fjällräven rucksacks such as the Vintage 20. Simply treat the same as you would an non-lined jacket
Zipper Lubricant - Simply rub in to stiff zippers to make them glide smoothly once more
Zipper Protector - By rubbing wax in you can prevent ice from forming on the zippers of your tents and rucksacks
